History

 

The Jin Shin Jyutsu® physio-philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing energy in the body. The Art had fallen into relative obscurity when it was dramatically revived in Japan in the early 1900's by a gentleman named Jiro Murai. After using it to clear himself of a life-threatening illness, Jiro Murai devoted the rest of his life to the research and development of Jin Shin Jyutsu®, gathering insights from a range of experiences and resources.

He then passed on his resulting knowledge to a Japanese - American lady named Mary Burmeister, who took the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu® to the United States in the 1950s. Mary Burmeister began teaching Jin Shin Jyutsu® to others in the early 1960s, and today there are thousands of practitioners throughout the world.

 

Current understanding of how it works

 

Jiro Murai taught that Jin Shin Jyutsu® brings balance to the body's energies, promoting optimal health and well-being, and facilitating our own profound healing capacity. It is a valuable complementary aid to conventional healing methods, inducing relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.

The Jin Shin Jyutsu® system employs twenty-six 'safety energy locks' (SELs) along energy pathways in our bodies. When one or more of the paths become blocked, whether through some kind of trauma, or maybe a repeated unhealthy habit, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area and eventually disharmonise the complete path of the energy flow.

To remove the blockage, the SELs in question need a helping hand - literally. Jin Shin Jyutsu® does not involve massage, manipulation of muscles, or the use of drugs or other substances.  Instead it is a gentle art, practiced by placing the fingers (over clothing) on particular safety energy locks. Holding these energy locks in certain combinations, or in a particular sequence, removes the blockage and allows the energy to flow freely again. Jin Shin Jyutsu hands on healing is a completely non intrusive, alternative method for clearing and healing blocks in the body.

One of the great benefits of Jin Shin Jyutsu® is the 'Self Help' aspect and everyone can learn how to use it. And you don't have to be ill to benefit from Jin Shin Jyutsu® - you can use it in a preventative way to keep yourself from becoming ill in the first place - promoting an ever growing sense of well-being and vitality throughout your body. 

A Jin Shin Jyutsu® treatment generally lasts about an hour during a Light Balance session. And whether you're addressing an existing stress or health issue, or you simply want to participate actively in maintaining your health, harmony and well-being, the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu® is a simple and powerful tool to facilitate healing. Light Balance is based in Fareham, Hampshire yet Jin Shin Jyutsu may also be performed as a distance session.
